Since the dismal failure of their "NBA Cares" ad deluge, David Stern and the NBA have begun an effort to prove that NBA players can do more than shoot the ball, drive the lane and throw a punch by encouraging their players to show the more artistic sides of themselves. In a similar vein to Jerry Stackhouse singing the national anthem before the Rockets game, Grizzlies Guard Eddie Jones reenacts the story of the Garden of Eden through interpretive dance. Here Jones shows the influence of the snake over the naive and trusting Eve.

Audience response was mixed. While some thought the performance to be cutting edge live performance of provacatively themed stories, others, like Bill Wendell from Salt Lake City, just didn't get it. "Now don't get me wrong," he said, "I'm all for art; I love Gallagher. But this just didn't strike a chord with me. The Bible's a bit dated. Now if they'd had the story of Joseph Smith or the trials o' Brigham Young, that would have been something." Jones was undaunted by the ambivalent reception of his work: "Man, there are always going to be critics. I don't expect someobody who comes to a sporting event like this to understand the deeper themes of my private work. I was reluctant to showcase such a delicate piece in front of such a brutal audience, but it's so hard to say no to David when he gives you those puppy dog eyes." Jones has booked numerous shows on the East Coast and in Europe during the off season, to be capped off by his keynote performance at the International Mime Festival in Paris in August.
